Trek

2012-05-30 13.04.53

Brandon had the opportunity to go on a Pioneer Trek this week. Trek is a chance for the kids to step back in time and to live like our pioneer ancestors did as they crossed the plains. The youth traded in their cells phones, video games and comforts of home for old fashion clothes, hand carts and sleeping on the ground. For 3 days they pushed a handcart with all of their “families” belongings.

Brandon almost didn’t get to go. The weekend before they were to leave on Wednesday, he came down with something. He was running a fever and had a sore throat. We took him to urgent care because there had been a few cases of strep around. They gave him some medicine and sent us home. By Monday night he had a fever again and now was coughing. So we went back in. This time to our regular doctor. She said it was Influenza. The good thing was as long as the fever broke he could go if he felt like it. Since it usually lasts about 5-7 days and he was now on day 5. The bad news he felt horrible and only wanted to sleep.

Long story short, he rested the next day and a half, Bob gave him a blessing and he woke up Wednesday feeling 100 times better. So off he went to trek.

He come home with such great stories and had so much fun. I am so glad he didn’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity.

These are all the youth and the leaders who went from our ward and some of the kids before they got on the bus Wednesday.

I forgot my camera when I picked him up on Saturday. They all looked just as happy, but  tired and with a lot more dirt.
