Today we said goodbye to a great man! Bob’s dad passed away on Saturday November 9th surrounded by his family.
On Wednesday the 6th we got a call from Jeff around 4:00 that Dad had collapsed at work and it was not looking good. He was on his way to the ER and would call with more information.
Bob as already on his way home from work, so when he got home I told him. All of our hearts here were breaking as we sat so far away not knowing. Dad was so young only 67 and in great health, he had made so many healthy changes in the last year.
We finally heard from Alyson and Jeff about 6:00. Dad had suffered a massive heart attack at work. As the family all gathered at the hospital, Dad was moved to the ICU where they would keep him sedated and cooling his body for 24 hours to try and preserve the brain.
We later learned that is was a miracle that he even made it to the hospital. There was a customer in the store who was a nurse who immediately began chest compressions.
We started looking at flights to get Bob there as soon as possible. Bob checked the Intel plane on a whim, there are never empty seats, but there was 1. The Lord was looking out for us, such a tender mercy.
Bob was able to spend time with his dad,and be there with his mom and all his siblings as he passed. We all got to call and talk to him too.
Bob then came home Monday and we all headed back on Wednesday afternoon for the funeral.
What an amazing funeral service for an equally amazing person! It doesn't surprise me that there were over 400 people in attendance at Dad's funeral. The chapel was full and the chairs in the cultural hall went all the way to the stage & there were people standing as well. All of our family members were there except for Rianne & Eric. Aunt Sandy, Aunt Linda, Uncle John, Uncle Steve, Aunt Michelle, Ginger, Michelle, Jodi, John Michael & Amber all came from Utah & Arizona. Doug, Sandy & Steve Diamond drove out from Utah. Camden Bair & his wife & daughter drove out from New Mexico. Many family friends/old ward members came from all over the area. Lots of old co-workers of Dad's came too; people he worked with over the last 43 years.
Aunt Linda did such a great job on the eulogy & Glen Davis gave a wonderful talk on the Plan of Salvation.
After the service we went outside the church & were able to talk to some of the friends that came.
Then we headed down to East Lawn Mortuary where Dad was laid to rest. We all placed flowers on the coffin. It was so hard to say good-bye!
We are so grateful for our knowledge of the plan of salvation and we KNOW that we will see him again.
