Bob’s Trip - CHINA

Bob had the chance to go to both China and Malaysia for work. He was gone for about 17 days. We really missed him while he was gone. Especially when the toilet got a leak, we had the air conditioner worked on and the pilot light on the water heater went out. (all within 3 days)

First he went to Chengdu, China. He stayed at a really nice 5 star hotel.  The Shangri-La.2011-08-27 15.48.112011-08-27 17.01.40

He got there on Saturday, so he had a day to try to get adjusted to the time difference. That day he explored the city a little on his own and went to the Chengdu Panda Preserve. It is breeding and research center. 2011-08-28 13.49.222011-08-28 13.54.372011-08-28 14.22.45

He also explored Kuanxiangzi Alley. This is an old military village that was used over 1,000 years ago. Now it is an outdoor shopping area .2011-08-28 15.46.332011-08-28 15.50.322011-08-28 15.52.542011-08-28 15.58.422011-08-28 15.59.022011-08-28 15.59.12

This was pretty funny, I don’t think they had Starbucks 1,000 years ago.

He also ate a lot of interesting foods while there. The locals from the factory would take them to lunch or dinner most days and Bob being a good sport would try at least one bite of everything they ordered. Some nights all he could tell us about dinner was that he didn’t throw up. The kids looked forward to his emails every day telling them some of the things he tried. Some of the things included: Cow stomach, duck tongue, duck feet, chicken feet, beef tendons, goose intestine, rabbit and yak.

Bob’s Trip-MALAYSIA

After a week in China Bob headed to  Penang Malaysia for another week. Again he had the chance to stay at a nice hotel. This time it was G Hotel.

While in Penang he got to see some interesting sights, with his counter-parts there.

One of the places they went was the Botanical Gardens. There were wild monkey’s running everywhere there.

They also went to Penang Hill. Which is their tallest mountain. You get to ride a “cable car” up the mountain. It isn’t a traditional cable car. The track runs under the car. And it is on about a 45 degree angle. The kids thought the billboards going up the hill were so funny. At the top there was a nice view and a few buildings.

Another interesting thing that they saw was this floating Mosque. They happened to be there when the tide was out so you could see the underside and the “stilts” it was on.

When he has been to Malaysia before he has been to the Butterfly Farm. He was able to go again this time. There are butterflies everywhere, and lots of other cool (or gross depending how you look at it) bugs and animals.
