Scout Camp–Camp Raymond

Bob and Zachary attended Scout Camp last week at Camp Raymond, which is just west of Flagstaff.  They had a lot of fun with the scout troop.  Eight boys from the troop attended.  35 troops were present. The boys worked really hard on merit badges.  Zachary earned 6 badges and 1 partial.  He enjoyed shooting rifles, doing leather and wood carving projects, and making Indian projects.  The boys did a night swim, a morning run, hiked to to top of mountain with an incredible view on a “Abraham and Isaac” hike, did a service project, won third place overall in Campsite Inspections, earned the Flintlock Trail patch, Adventure Award, Honor Patrol award, and won overall 1st place in the Camp Wide games over all the other 35 troops.

30-mile hike

Brandon and the Varsity Team planned a 30-mile backpacking hike for their Scout Camp this summer.  They went on the Canyon Loop Trail on the Mogollon Rim.  They were supposed to be gone from Wednesday evening until Saturday.  But they ended up coming home on Friday morning.  When they reached the cars at the halfway-point to get more water, they decided that they were all done.  Everyone was too tired, packs too heavy, some people not prepared enough, etc.  But they had fun, hiked through a bunch of canyons, cooked and ate a lot of dehydrated food, and learned a lesson on preparedness.

Today he is very sore, but we keep telling him it will get better and in the end it is totally worth it. Right now I don’t know if he believes us.

Bowling

Monday for Memorial Day we went bowling as a family. It was actually a lot of fun. We each have our own unique way of bowling. (as you can see in the videos below.)

I of course forgot the camera so we took a bunch of photos with my phone, so that is why they are a little blurry.

This was Rachel's first time bowling and she did a pretty good job. She got so excited after each turn, but had a hard time waiting for her next turn. She found some creative ways to entertain herself.
